Through the end of October and into early November, we got about four straight weeks of rain (which unfortunately caused a lot of detrimental flooding in a lot of Italian cities along the Mediterranean, including Genoa and the Cinque Terre area). Feeling a little stir-crazy, we decided to take a quick trip to Stressa, the city located on the west shore of Lake Maggiore near all the islands we visited on our first weekend, and again when Lowell and Renee visited.
The drive was rainy and hazy, but still pretty beautiful. It was cool to see the islands on our way in.
We decided to simply wander around the shore a bit (which meant I got to take advantage of my beloved rain boots, so that was a plus).
Luke always insists I get a picture with the local mermaids.
We walked through a little park which had this cool fountain, a lot of huge trees, and puddles galore...
which provided opportunity for some cool photography attempts.
We've noticed these crazy trees everywhere in Italy. They remind me of something in a Dr. Seuss book, so I like them.
We were able to explore the town a little, enjoy a pint of Kilkenny's at a local pub, and (surprise!) end our trip with some good food and wine. Not bad for a little day-trip in the rain!
